It's famous for its half-scale replicas of famous locomotives and its stunning coastal views across the Mawddach Estuary.

Heritage

Beachside Miniature Legend

The Fairbourne Railway has a remarkable history of changing gauges. It began as a 2ft horse-drawn tramway in 1895 and evolved through 15-inch and eventually 12.25-inch gauges. Since 1984, it has been famous for its meticulously crafted half-scale replicas of world-famous narrow-gauge locomotives. The line runs along the beautiful Mawddach Estuary to the ferry point for Barmouth, offering one of the most scenic short railway journeys in Wales.
