A classic rural "Light Railway" that preserves the charm of the Edwardian era, running for 10.5 miles through the Wealden countryside from Tenterden to the spectacular 14th-century Bodiam Castle. It is one of the most authentically restored lines in the country.

Railway History

The Rural Light Railway

The K&ESR was the first light railway built in Britain under the Light Railways Act of 1896, designed to serve remote rural communities with lower construction costs. It was famously saved and restored after closure in 1961 by a dedicated local group. Its terminus at Bodiam offers the iconic view of the castle reflected in its moat, perfectly blending the history of the iron horse with medieval architecture.
