Railway History

The Beacons Climber

The Brecon Mountain Railway is one of the most scenic lines in South Wales. It follows part of the historic 'Old Merthyr Road' line which was originally built in 1859. Today, its distinct American-built Baldwin steam locomotives pull classic observations carriages along the shores of the Taf Fechan Reservoir, offering breathtaking views of the Brecon Beacons as it climbs into the mountains.
