About

The Hyde Park Picture House, opened in 1914, is one of the world's oldest premier cinemas. Located in the heart of Leeds' student district, this Grade II listed building is famous for being the only remaining cinema in the UK that still uses gas lighting in its auditorium. After a major restoration completed in 2023, it now features modern facilities while preserving its stunning Edwardian décor, including the original ticket office and ornate plasterwork. It remains a fiercely independent champion of world cinema, locally-produced films, and timeless classics.
