Railway History

The Premier Steam Line

The Severn Valley Railway (SVR) was originally built by the Great Western Railway (GWR) to link Hartlebury with Shrewsbury. After closing in 1963, it was meticulously restored by volunteers over several decades. Today, it remains a gold standard for railway preservation, featuring six beautifully maintained stations and a world-class fleet of steam locomotives and historic carriages that evoke the golden age of rail travel.
