Ireland's only full-size heritage railway, based in the historic town of Downpatrick. The line features steam and diesel trains running through the County Down countryside to the burial place of St. Patrick at Down Cathedral and the Great North of Ireland Railway museum.
Ireland's Main Line Heritage
The Downpatrick & County Down Railway is unique in Ireland for its preservation of 'Irish Standard Gauge' (5ft 3in) rail travel. Volunteers have rebuilt sections of the former Belfast and County Down Railway, creating a living museum that connects the town with the ruins of Inch Abbey and the landscape associated with St. Patrick.
