North Yorkshire Moors Railway
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is one of the most celebrated heritage railways in the world, running 24 spectacular miles through the heart of the North York Moors National Park between Pickering and Whitby. Established in 1836 and preserved by volunteers from 1967, the line carries over 350,000 passengers a year through some of England's most dramatic moorland scenery. Goathland station — known to millions as "Hogsmeade" from the Harry Potter films and "Aidensfield" from Heartbeat — is one of the line's beloved stops. The railway's fleet of lovingly restored steam locomotives, including engines dating from the 1920s, haul traditional teak coaches through sweeping valleys and alongside ancient woodland. Events throughout the year include Wartime Weekends, Steam Galas, and the magical Santa Specials. A journey on the NYMR is a truly unforgettable experience.
